Becoming the Neighborhood Trendsetter
From just another empty lot behind a brand-new build to a picturesque paradise, this design centers around a pool that family—and neighbors—will never want to leave. The entire project took about five months to complete from the first day on-site to completing the final punch list items.

The Process
After a positive experience with Aspen Outdoor Designs at their previous property, these homeowners came back with big dreams for a custom pool and outdoor living space at their brand-new build. Initially, their vision included a custom concrete pool, a hot tub, and a pool house with a full bathroom. Changes were necessary to better fit the project’s space and budget, however.
Rather than build an entire pool house with all-new framing, plumbing, electricity, and more, Aspen suggested a basement walkout to bridge the patio and covered structure to the basement’s vinyl flooring and existing full bathroom that would be able to handle wet feet coming in from the pool.
The Solution
As the main gathering area for the new yard and outdoor living space, the cedar covered structure has room to entertain, includes a privacy wall to the neighboring lot, and features shingles, gutters, and downspouts that match the house. Original plans included a fire pit under the structure, but switching to an outdoor fireplace better opens up the space’s flow of traffic and ventilation. The Unilock paver patio extends around the pool deck, with a sidewalk leading around the corner to the new basement walkout.
Adding basement access required replacing a window with a door and a retaining wall to match those around the pool. The Aspen landscaping crew included river rock and large natural stone steppers among the flower beds’ topsoil and mulch, with a collection of shrubs, perennials, and grasses adding a natural touch of comfort. With a trendsetting backyard to fit the family’s space, lifestyle, and budget, this new house feels like a home.
